Match Report :
A game of two halves indeed..
Leicester were all over Saints like a cheap suit (or in their case, a very expensive suit) and Saints were guilty of ball watching allowing King's cross from distance to land invitingly at the feet of Vassell for him to tap in past Davis in only the third minute. 1-0
Things went much the same way for the rest of the half and Leicester's second goal was not long in coming Schlupp, who had come on in the 6th minute for the injured Nugent, rolled the ball, unchallenged across the face of the penalty are for Wellens to run onto and volley past the diving Davis. 2-0
In spite of it being pretty much one way traffic, Saints managed to fashion a goal from the guile of Lallana down the left flank. His cross was met by Harding, who planted a firm header past Schmeichel. 2-1
The one real element of controversy came in time added on at the end of the first half Leicester won a corner. Danns took the kick and on it's way over Bamba was climbing all over Rickie Lambert. He was almost doubled over when the ball arrived and Bamba was nowhere near the ball, which hit Rickie on the head and went in past Davis. How that was not a foul is beyond me.
Adkins didn't waste time feeling sorry for himself, he took off Richardson at the start of the second half and brought on Schneiderlin. It paid off almost immediately with Connolly scoring a stooping header from an inswinging corner.
From then on it was a masterclass from Saints in their particular brand of possession football. Short, quick passes on the move. There was one main reason why Saints didn't score and that was their goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel. One save from Rickie Lambert late on was astonishing.
Saints used their other two available substitutions, bringing on the impressive De Ridder for the aimless Guly and the equally impressive Fox for goal scorer, Harding.
The strange thing is, that I now feel better about Saints chances this season, even though we lost. On another day the Rickie Lambert own goal wouldn't have been given and we would at least have got a draw, but to be honest, with the sort of football we played in the second half, we should have still won the game.
Things are looking good.
